AP Art History

After students spent a year studying global art history from prehistory until today, they finally had the opportunity to do some art making of their own. With countless styles, traditions, and cultural histories at their fingertips, they had a few choices to consider before delving into the making. Since we studied many ‘isms”, from Realism to Impressionism to Dadaism and Surrealism, students could create their own “ism” by first writing a manifesto and then creating a work that exemplified it. Alternatively, they could recreate, in any way they wished, a work from the curriculum, create an artwork in the style of any artist we studied, or make, illustrate and write a children’s book with artists or artworks from our curriculum.
